About us

The Good Plastic Company is the leading international manufacturer of sustainable surface materials, made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic under its Polygood® brand. The mission-driven company was founded in the Netherlands in 2018, in an environment in which businesses were implementing circular economy practices to meet environmental regulations and market demand. The concept of sustainable materials that could be made at industrial scale was gaining momentum.

A truly sustainable design material

The company’s journey began with finding a purpose for the 400 million tonnes of plastic waste produced every year. We know that interior furniture, fixtures, and equipment account for 7-10% of a building’s overall carbon footprint. They can go on to equal, if not exceed, the footprint of a structure’s construction over the course of an average building’s lifespan.

It became our mission to help the architecture and design industry replace traditional materials like virgin resins and other non-sustainable options for commercial projects. The answer is Polygood®, a beautiful surface design material — built to last and fully recyclable at the end of an interior’s lifespan.

Creating such a versatile design material involves developing advanced technology in-house that collects a wide array of data parameters during processing, including temperature and melting points, pressure, time, and melt flow index.

Today, our proprietary, one-of-a-kind equipment produces every high-quality recycled plastic panel from different waste streams on a large scale. Our commitment to sustainable processes and production means Polygood® undergoes regular laboratory testing to meet international standards and maintains an Environmental Product Declaration. By 2023, we earned Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze accreditation, proof that we achieved circular production in the healthiest, most environmentally-friendly possible manner.

Recycled plastic materials became the new norm

Quickly, household names such as Nike, McDonald’s, Adidas, and LUSH embraced Polygood® for use in displays, facades, and furniture at locations all over the world. Hundreds of retail brands, hotels, universities, offices, and other organisations choose Polygood® panels to create environmentally-conscious interior design elements of all kinds. Together, we are transforming plastic waste into functional and highly attractive design elements, keeping this valuable resource in use and out of landfill.

Polygood® has a GWP (global warming potential) of only 487 kg per ton, which is eight times lower than using virgin polystyrene and six times more eco-friendly than traditional acrylic-based solid surface materials.

Based on this data — which includes CO2, CH4, N2O, and other gases — we continue to benchmark against other surface material manufacturers to understand how effective we are and how we need to improve.

By leveraging a single type of plastic from a variety of waste sources, we produce more than 1,000 tonnes of recycled plastic panels per year for our clients — that’s 50,000 m2 (538,000 sqft) of panels — meeting industrial-scale demand. Wall panels and shelving, counter tops and displays, signage and storage: each corner shop, boutique hotel or modern office give new life to anywhere from 5-10 tonnes of plastic waste per project.

Our philosophy

Practising sustainability does not stop at circular manufacturing operations and using recycled materials. It is inherent to our vision, to how we work with people and interact as a team.

We proactively address our clients’ needs by meeting their challenges with solid research, development, efficiency, and flexibility at every stage. Our dedicated specialists establish strong relationships with architects and designers, develop efficient production processes, and often work hand-in-hand with customers to craft custom patterns.

Our business environment is founded on principles of respect and mutual support, valuing each team member as we remain dedicated to the company’s growth. Ideas, participation, and decision-making come from consulting personnel at every level of the operation.

Growth on a global scale

We take pride in the calibre of talent within our team. With over 70 diverse members across eight countries and two manufacturing sites in the Netherlands and Ukraine, we work with clients all over the world, from Tokyo to San Francisco, introducing architects and designers to the unique benefits of recycled plastic, promoting sustainability, and making a positive impact. Expansion of production to other parts of our world will follow as part of our medium-term vision.
