Kaleidos office headquarters
Objective
There are sustainable design projects. And then there are marvellous projects that use multiple circular materials and colours. In a project unlike any other, Kaleidos took this playful, inclusive approach with 2BOLD architects when shaping the software development firm’s new Madrid headquarters, and some of our most popular Polygood® patterns shaped the furniture for several rooms bursting with creativity.
Approach
The process also involved the colleagues of creatives using the space everyday. Staff named each space after a brilliant woman who left a mark on history.
Simone Ortega
The 41m2 modular dining, meeting, and informal presentation area is named for Spanish culinary author Simone Ortega, for example. Its perimeter is equipped with a family of reconfigurable seating and tiers, made from Polygood® White Lollipop and birch plywood that compliment the terracotta coloured seats and tabletops.
Amelia Earhart
This main meeting room includes a large table custom made from the Emerald Ghost pattern and lacquered MDF. The lighting fixtures were reclaimed and lacquered to serve as colour accents and give them a second life, just like Polygood® provides a new life for plastic waste in projects that circumnavigate the globe.
Katherine Johnson
The room is named for the mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics at NASA were critical to the success of spaceflights, and White Lollipop topped a custom-made desk underneath another reclaimed light fixture. The iconic tones of NASA inspired the blue and burgundy colour palette.
Ella Fitzgerald
Designed for long days of back-to-back interviews and online meetings, the fixed desk with an ergonomic chair plus a cosy corner armchair allows the user to change positions. Celebrating extraordinary vocal talent and acoustic perfection, the room’s interior is lined with felt panels that improve acoustic comfort and privacy. The work surfaces have been custom-designed using the Polygood® Greycious pattern, while the flooring is finished with braided recycled vinyl.
Hedy Lamarr
This tribute to the wireless communications pioneer is used for streaming and product presentations. The room’s acoustic panels optimise sound quality and woven recycled vinyl flooring complements its functionality. A work surface made from Reverse Timeless Duo, along with LEDs allow the room’s colour to change, adding a touch of versatility and dynamism.
Impact
When selecting the materials for the custom pieces, sustainability was the cornerstone principle. Materials were chosen primarily for their environmental friendliness and/or local sourcing, aiming for each decision to contribute to a greener future.
After market research, Polygood© was selected as the base material for most of the designs. This state-of-the-art firm chose our state-of-the art, high-strength panels made from 100% recycled, and recyclable plastic, offering an ideal combination of durability and low environmental impact.
