De Bijenkorf, Amsterdam
De Bijenkorf is the Netherlands’ premium department store, founded in Amsterdam in 1870, with its flagship on Dam Square. In 2026 it reopened the women’s fashion and shoe department of that store in two phases. Sustainability was part of the brief from the first meeting: Random Studio, working with De Bijenkorf’s own store design team, sampled recycled and low-impact materials and ran a lifecycle assessment workshop before choosing what to build with.
Fiction Factory built the display stands in Polygood® Salmon Terra, a pattern made from old cable spools. The stepped plinths and blocks lift mannequins and bags above the shop floor. Every Polygood panel is pressed from one type of recycled plastic, so when the displays change, the stands can come back through our take-back programme and become new panels
De Bijenkorf first used Polygood in 2023, for retail fixtures in Terrazzo Nuovo and Timeless Duo, and chose it again for the stands in its new women’s department.
